Camp General Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City -- Five members of the New People's Army in Palawan surrendered to the operatives of Western Command (WESCOM) on the day of their anniversary as focused and civil military operations continue in the Province.

The five communist terrorist members surrendered on March 29, 2018 to WESCOM's Joint Task Group North.

"We are glad that these 5 NPA members have decided to surrender and return to the fold of the law. Their surrender is another serious blow to the ranks of communist terrorism in the Province of Palawan, " said Lieutenant General Rozzano Briguez, Commander of Western Command.

The surrenderees are now under custody of the military for validation and documentation. Later on, their application for the Local Social Integration Program (LSIP) of the Provincial Government of Palawan and DILG's Comprehensive Local Social Integration Program (CLIP) where they will receive financial assistance and livelihood opportunities will be processed.

"Their surrender is a clear indicator of their unwillingness to continue with the armed struggle. According to them, their rank is tainted with corruption of their leaders, fatigue and disappointment due to unfulfilled promises," Lieutenant General Briguez said.

"We continue to urge the remaining members of communist terrorist NPA to choose the path of peace. We call on them to put their arms down, surrender and rejoin the society," the Commander of WESCOM said.

Upon surrender, the Local Social Integration Program (LSIP) of the Provincial Government of Palawan and the Comprehensive Local Social Integration Program (CLIP) of the Department of Interior and Local Government are waiting for NPA members to start their lives anew with their families and loved ones.

AFP Statement Re NPA Anniversary

Published: Monday, 26 March 2018

The AFP is intensifying efforts to thwart possible attacks and atrocities by the NPA in line with their upcoming anniversary on March 29, 2018. The occasion is usually marked by their attacks against our people and vulnerable communities.

In the past, they have staged hostilities such as raids, ambuscades, and sabotage against government troops, on public establishments and vital installations that severely affected innocent civilians. These attacks against our people are terroristic in nature and clear reflection of their true color as a criminal and terrorist organization.

In various places they have staged rallies and protest actions that caused massive traffic that affected motorists and commuters. They have repeatedly done such actions that disturbed the peace of the place and pestered law abiding citizens.

Our forces will continue to be on a proactive stance against all threats of violence and will exert every effort to preserve the peace in every locality.

Your soldiers and policemen cannot do it by themselves. We call on our people to help in the preservation of peace in their community by reporting any suspicious individuals or activities in their surroundings.

We call on our citizens to refrain from joining public gatherings that are linked with the celebration of the NPA’s anniversary or any activity that is associated with any terror group.

The fight against terrorism and the preservation of peace is a shared responsibility of everyone.

Headquarters Joint Task Force Malampaya, El Nido, Palawan -- Navy vessel BRP Federico Martir (PC 385), under the operational control of Western Command's Joint Task Force Malampaya rescued a distressed banca in El Nido, Palawan on 23 March 2018.

At around 4PM, while PC 385, was conducting Maritime Patrol at vicinity 1,870 yards North East Off Miniloc Island, ship’s personnel noticed a Motor Banca at her Port Quarter with its passengers waving their hands, as a signal of distress and found that said banca was already dead on the water.

Given the rough weather condition at that time and the need to render necessary assistance, the Commanding Officer of PC 385, CDR VIRGILIO C DE GUZMAN PN(GSC) immediately decided to approach said banca and ably maneuvered to its location. The ship crew rendered necessary assistance and towed the distressed banca.

Said motor banca was then identified as Queen Cleopatra with three (3) crews including its boat captain and with twenty (20) Filipino passengers on board conducting their tour in El Nido, Palawan. Accordingly, said banca experienced an engine failure and if not rescued on time, they might have been drifted somewhere and might capsize.

CDR DE GUZMAN PN(GSC) also informed Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at El Nido, Palawan regarding the current towing of the distressed banca. PCG then sent their aluminum boat to assist PC 385.
When the wind and current condition were already favorable, CDR DE GUZMAN PN(GSC) then decided to let the banca’s passengers board PC 385 for them to have a safer and comfortable environment. Among the twenty (20) passengers, fifteen (15) of them boarded PC 385 while the other five (5) boarded PCG’s boat. Upon reaching shallow waters the PCG boat continued the towing of the distressed banca to the shoreline of El Nido, Palawan. At around 6PM, the rescued passengers arrived safely at El Nido Pier.
