32 Former NPA Rebels Receive Financial Assistance

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY– The Provincial Government of Palawan, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), in collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Western Command (WESCOM) successfully facilitated the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) Awarding of financial assistance to 32 former NPA rebels held on February 05, 2018 at the Provincial Capitol.

Composed of 28 males and four (4) females, the 32 former rebels from communist terrorist New People’s Army (NPA) received financial assistance from CLIP for livelihood assistance, services and support. Each CLIP beneficiary availed a total amount of Sixty Five Thousand Pesos (P 65,000.00), alienated as Php50,000 for livelihood assistance and Php15,000 for immediate assistance.

At the beginning of year 2018, the rise of NPA surrenders in Palawan shows the local government’s earnestness and partnership with WESCOM in attaining peace and order through the implementation of CLIP for their reconciliation and reintegration into the mainstream society. This is also a manifestation of the former rebels' desire and hope for new beginnings and a better future.


WESCOM Honors KIG Deployed Personnel

Puerto Princesa City- As a tribute for their selfless service rendered as vanguards of the Philippine-held Islands in the West Philippine Sea, an Awarding Ceremony for the outgoing Kalayaan Island Group(KIG) security personnel was held on 26 January 2018 at Western Command Headquarters, Camp General Artemio Ricarte, Bgy. San Miguel, Puerto Princesa City.

The event was jibed with Headquarters WESCOM's Flag Retreat and was spearheaded by Commodore Dorvin Jose Legazpi, the Deputy Commander, Western Command and Captain Carlos Sabarre, the Deputy Commander for Fleet Operations, Naval Forces West(NFW).

 Said awardees are personnel from Headquarters NFW, 3rd Marine Brigade and MSAC-W respectively. They all received the Kalayaan Campaign Medals and Military Merit Medals.

The awarading of the outgoing KIG security personnel is a regular practice of WESCOM and NFW to honor the heroic deeds of every personnel assigned in the KIG. 

WESCOM's Joint Task Group South Recovers 1 Shotgun and other NPA Paraphernalia in Brooke's Point

As the Joint Task Group South (JTGS), composed of MBLT4 and 18SFC, clears remaining Communist Terrorists Mass Base areas in Southern Palawan, its operating elements recovered 1 Shotgun, 1 M16 magazine with live ammo, back packs and Bienvenido Vallever Command uniforms in Sitio Gara, Brgy Amas, Brooke's Point last 18 January 2018.

The seizure of said items was based on information from concerned residents of said area. This was a result of an enhanced information sharing protocol established by LGU of Brooke's Point as a result of series of MPOC meetings, security forums, and most importantly the commitment vowed by local leaders and constituents.

WESCOM shall continue with its focused military operations in Palawan in order to dismantle all NPA. Likewise WESCOM urges NPA members to surface, return to fold of the law and be reintegrated in the mainstream society.

Puerto Princesa City - The Philippine Navy’s first Landing Dock Vessel, BRP-Tarlac (LD-601), arrived here today for a 3-day port call from Jan. 10-12 as part of her first logistics run mission for CY2018.

A simple welcome ceremony for the ship's officers and men was facilitated by Naval Forces West that includes a band performance by the 570th CTW and ”Man-the-Rail” as a time-honored tradition of the naval service. It was attended by military contingents in the Western Command’s AOR and local government officials of Puerto Princesa City and Palawan.

BRP Tarlac was loaded with logistical supplies for the 3rd Marine Brigade and its Battalions in Northern and Southern Palawan, operational supplies for the Naval Special Operations Unit-4, and cargoes for the ships in the AOR. All of these are necessary as the PN units and personnel conduct their mandated duty of promoting peace in the province of Palawan.

The sealift of assorted relief goods intended for the people of Palawan from Support Your Navy Foundation Inc. (SYNFI) and Headquarters Philippine Marine Corps was also part of the ship’s mission.

An “Open House” will be held on Jan. 11 to showcase her capabilities as the Philippine’s first landing dock platform as well as to give opportunity for the residents of Puerto Princes City for a guided shipboard tour is also part of this visit. Among those who were invited in the Open House are members of the media, Navy Reservists, representatives from the local government units, students of PPC and other stakeholders.

BRP Tarlac is the first of the two landing dock vessels of the PN commissioned on June 2016. This landing dock, as well as her sister ship BRP Davao del Sur (LD602), can perform as the PN’s floating Command and Control center especially during emergency situations, conduct of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) and other purposes as military sealift and transport missions may require.
