Team WESCOM secures the country's Energy Resources

Camp General Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City - LTGEN ERICKSON R GLORIA AFP, assumed Command of Western Command on 28 May 2020, in a modified Change of Command Ceremony presided by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, GEN FELIMON T SANTOS JR AFP at the Rizal Reef Hall, Camp General Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City. He is the 33rd Commander of this unit.

GEN SANTOS JR gave recognition to VADM RENE V MEDINA AFP who led WESCOM for almost 14 months in securing and sustaining peace in the Joint Area of Operation (JAO), including the other mission areas - Territorial Defense Operations (TDO), Humanitarian and Disaster Response (HADR) and Support to National Development,
covering the Province of Palawan and the West Philippine Sea. Through his exceptional leadership style, VADM MEDINA was able to degrade the Communist Terrorist Group and adversely affected their terroristic activities in the province. Likewise, his dynamic leadership brought about the effective, and active collaboration of Local Government Units (LGUs) and other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in the implementation of Executive Order (EO) 70.He also expressed his confidence in the commitment, passion and dedication of the new Commander, LTGEN GLORIA to sustain the gains and success of WESCOM.LTGEN GLORIA is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class of 1988. Before taking his post in WESCOM, he was The Deputy Chief of Staff (TDCS), Armed Forces of the Philippines. A tactical and rescue pilot, he holds a command pilot rating in the Philippine Air Force. He is a well-rounded Officer having been assigned to various fields of expertise which are critical to the management and command of the organization, such as comptrollership/budget and finance; operations; logistics; plans; personnel/human resource; and education and training.During his Assumption Speech, LTGEN GLORIA stated that WESCOM will exert relentless efforts to prevent local CTGs from spreading harm and violence in Western Philippines. In relation to the NTF-ELCAC, WESCOM will pursue to defeat the CTGs and their support structure in the Province, and on external security, WESCOM will remain proactive in asserting our sovereignty and sovereign rights in the WPS by conducting Territorial Defense Operations (TDO) in our maritime jurisdiction and maintain an effective presence to help deter intrusions and incursions.In his almost 32 years in the military service, the Command is honored that LTGEN GLORIA joined the revered lineage of WESCOM Commanders.

Team WESCOM Rescues Distressed Motor Banca in El Nido

Headquarters Joint Task Force Malampaya, El Nido, Palawan -- Navy vessel BRP Simeon Castro(PC 374), under the operational control of Western Command's Joint Task Force Malampaya and Naval Forces West rescued a distressed motor banca with 14 passengers in El Nido on 08 April 2018.

The motor banca identified as M/B Kidd Dodong, suffered a broken outrigger after being hit by big waves while conducting island hopping tour in the vicinity of Saddle Island, Barangay Liminangcong, Taytay, Palawan.

Together with the Philippine Coast Guard, PC 374 responded to the distress call and proceeded to the area at around 12:40PM. After a brief search, the said motor banca was sighted in Guintunguan Island in El Nido. 7 of the passengers boarded PC 374 while the other 7 boarded the Costguard speed boat. They were safely transported to Liminangcong Pier in Taytay, Palawan at around 1:40PM.

#TeamWESCOM, through the Naval Forces West (NFW) conducted Medical Air Evacuation (MEDEVAC) to one of the crew members of MV Evangelia, a cargo ship traversing at Sulu Sea, 35NM East of Puerto Princesa City (PPC) on April 8, 2018.

"Upon receipt of a call at around 4 o’clock in the afternoon from the Philippine Coastguard (PCG)-Palawan, the NFW was informed that MV Evangelia Skipper, Captain Ernesto Abuan, requested for an immediate medical treatment to one of his crew named Mr Santos Tambo Jr, 49 years old, who suffered face burn caused by the explosion of one of their air-conditioning units. Naval Air Unit West (NAU-W) personnel, together with Western Command (WESCOM) medical personnel, immediately boarded one AW109 Helicopter (NH432) to conduct MEDEVAC mission.

At around 5:30 pm of the same day, the team successfully landed at the said cargo ship, promptly conducted medical assessment of the physical condition of Mr. Tambo Jr, and airlifted him to PPC. The victim, together with the Medical team, arrived at Philippine Air Force Hangar, Puerto Princesa City at around 6 pm and he was brought to Camp General Artemio Ricarte Station Hospital (CGARSH) for medical treatment," according to the report received from Naval Forces West.

Mr. Tambo Jr sustained 3rd degree burn. By 7:30pm, the patient was already discharged from CGARSH and was transferred to Palawan Cooperative Hospital, Puerto Princesa City for further treatment.

Naval Station Apolinario Jalandoon, Puerto Princesa City -- A Palaweño fisherman who was rescued by a naval floating asset under Naval Forces West at vicinity of Dalagang Bukid Shoal in West Philippine Sea on 23 March 2018 has arrived today in Puerto Princesa and will be reunited with his family in Rizal, Palawan.

Mr. Albert Carcuevas, 33 years old and a resident of Barangay Sicud, Rizal, Palawan was fishing in Rizal when his small banca encountered engine trouble. His banca was drifted towards West Philippine Sea. Carcuevas revealed that he stayed on board his banca for the past three days without food and water until he was rescued. Upon rescue, he stayed in Ayungin Shoal with Navy operatives from the Naval Forces West.

On April 6, 2018 aboard BRP Benguet (LS 507), Carcuevas travelled from Ayungin Shoal and arrives today at Headquarters Naval Forces West, Naval Station Apolinario Jalandoon, Puerto Princesa City where he was given a medical check up. He is in stable condition and expressed his gratefulness to the Navy for the assistance extended to him. Over-all, #TeamWESCOM, through the Naval Forces West has ensured his safe return and he will be soon reunited with his family in Rizal.
