Camp Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City (June 1) -- Troops surprised pupils from two public elementary schools in rural barangays of Puerto Princesa when they brought backpacks stuffed with the needed school supplies a week before schools open. School heads were as pleasantly surprised when they were handed a computer set and garbage bins.

The donations were given to help the school with much needed items that are required throughout the school year in Maoyon Elementary School and Babuyan Central School, said Air Force major Oliver Bañaria, acting civil military operations chief or U7.

Wescom bridging education through Books for Peace

Camp Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City (May 29) – Bridging education through technology is a fairly recent development bringing the military and civilian together in various collaborative efforts. Early this week, the Western Command delivered two computer sets to two schools via Rotary Club of Loyola Heights of Quezon City – a volunteer service organization with a mission to enhance education. RC Loyola has provided digital literacy skills to over 500,000 children from disadvantaged communities in the country and elsewhere. 

“As part of our civil relations at the Armed Forces, we are delighted to continue our support of RC Loyola’s work in improving education through technology in Palawan,” said Maj. Oliver Bañaria, commander of the 6th Civil Relations Group. “It is very satisfying to know that the computers will be used to benefit the education of children in disadvantaged schools.”

Governor-elect Pays Courtesy Call to Military

Camp General Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City (May 23) – A month before he actually assumes office as the chief executive of the province, governor-elect Jose Alvarez paid a courtesy call to the commander of the Palawan-based Armed Forces this afternoon.

At around 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon, Alvarez visited Maj. Gen.Rustico O. Guerrero, commander of the Western Command, and discussed possible tie-up of the provincial government with the military in the future.

Military donates books to poverty-stricken schools in Palawan

Camp General Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City (May 21) -- Troops of the Palawan-based Air Force and Navy have joined hands in helping the poverty-stricken students of ten elementary schools in Palawan and four in rural Puerto Princesa City.

This, by donating computer sets and new books for their decrepit mini-libraries, and helping in the repair, repainting and maintenance of classrooms on a week-long activity starting Monday (May 20) and is expected to end by Friday.

Troops from the 570th Composite Tactical Wing and the Naval Forces West carried the computers and books, and traveled through poorly maintained dirt roads on May 20, on a mission called "Books For Peace", Maj. Oliver Bañaria PAF, commander of the 6th Civil Relations Group at the Western Command, said.
