MNLF, AFP Assure Palawan as “ZONE of PEACE”

Camp Gen. Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City – The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in the province assured Palawan remains what they called as “Zone of Peace and Development”, corresponding to Western Command’s report to the Provincial Peace and Order Council that the province remains peaceful. The meeting was convened by PPOC chairman Palawan Governor Jose C. Alvarez who presided over the discussion.

Gen. Estino Jairi Ayyobie, MNLF senior leader in Palawan, said that as a peace and development zone, their organization is bound to respect the agreement it signed with the Ramos administration in 1997 which covers 14 provinces and 10 cities including Palawan and supposedly Zamboanga City where there was a stand-off between Moro fighters and the military.

AFP, PNP Gear Up For Barangay Polls

Camp Gen. Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City – With less than two weeks to go before the Barangay elections, security forces have geared up for the October 28, 2013 elections with a series of AFP-PNP coordinating workshop in the 23 municipalities in Palawan and Puerto Princesa City. 

According to Lt. Gen. Rustico O. Guerrero, commander of the Western Command, the provincial joint security control center have sponsored joint coordinating workshops and conferences to consolidate the AFP-PNPs commitment in supporting the COMELEC in the forthcoming Barangay Elections.

Light-A-Candle for Peace

Camp Gen. Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City – The Western Command supports the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP)’s quest for a just and lasting peace for the Philippines, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 675 declaring the month of September as National Consciousness Month.

As the government offices and military camps across the nation perform a simultaneous light-a-candle for peace" activity on Sept. 28, the Western Command led by the commander 6th Civil Relations Group, Major Oliver Bañaria representing the Commander of WESCOM, Lt. Gen. Rustico O. Guerrero; at around 6pm lit candles at the grounds of Camp Gen. Artemio Ricarte in Puerto Princesa City.

Troops Join Celebration of International Coastal Clean-Up Day

Camp Gen. Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City – More than brooms, dustpans and garbage cans, hundreds of soldiers joined in the International Coastal Clean-Up Day on Sept. 21.Troops from the Western Command and its operationally-controlled (OPCON) units did more than basic cleanup on Palawan’s beaches. Invited by the City Government of Puerto Princesa, WESCOM participated in the celebration of the 2013 International Coastal Cleanup which was also participated in by multi-sectoral organizations, including people's organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and concerned individuals.
