AFP unloads pangolin carcasses from Chinese vessel

Camp General Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City (April 28) – Elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Western Command and Naval Forces West have removed and transported to Puerto Princesa City the 400 boxes, each containing five to six pangolins, or scaly anteaters, from the cargo hold of F/N Min Long Yu, whose crew were charged with poaching and other violations.

A two-day hauling off of the pangolin carcasses were made by soldiers from Team Wescom and NFW using two M35 trucks to the designated burial site in a government-owned land in Barangay Irawan, Puerto Princesa City.

 Starting on 9am of April 27, the hauling was completed at 2pm the next day. To contain the stench of the skinned anteaters, each box was individually wrapped in black plastic bags during their 30-minute ride from the Puerto Princesa port, where the Chinese boat was docked.

PMA cadets visit Puerto Princesa City

Camp General Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City (April 30) – Ninety six cadets of the Philippine Military Academy class 2016 performed silent drills at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex in Sta. Monica Heights, Puerto Princesa City this morning.

 According to Maj. Oliver Bañaria PAF, group commander of the 6th Civil Relations Group, the silent drill is part of the three-day itinerary for the Palawan leg of their southern cruise.

Team Wescom brightens local smiles in Bagong Silang

Camp General Artemio Ricarte, Puerto Princesa City (April 20) – Team Wescom dentists have been very busy catering to patients in Barangay Bagong Silang, as it leads interagency civic action program in Barangay Bagong Silang, Puerto Princesa City. The program was designed to provide medical and dental mission and information drive on the different programs and projects of the national government.

 Headed by Team Wescom, the interagency activity was participated in by 4th Marine Battalion Landing Team, Junior Chamber International Puerto Princesa Kiao, 1310th Dental Dispensary of the 570th Composite Tactical Wing, the Naval Forces West dental dispensary, and barangay officials. The dental civic action program (dencap) and community health engagement training was held April 20 in Barangay Bagong Silang, Puerto Princesa City. It included operation tuli (circumcision), free haircut, and gender awareness lectures.

US, Philippine engineering brigades turn over school building

 For everyone involved in its construction, the two-classroom school building built by the joint engineering brigade of the US and Philippine armed forces in the coastal community of Barangay Tagburos in Puerto Princesa City was not merely a school building; it is also a “demonstration of what can be achieved when everyone cooperates and no one cares who gets the credit.”

 The newly-constructed school buildings were formally turned-over by the military to the school administration of Aplaya Elementary School in Tagburos on April 16 in a ceremony held at the school campus.

 “With the construction of this school building, we have demonstrated that nothing is impossible when we work together,” said, Officer-in-Charge of the US Naval Mobile Construction Brigade (NMCB) Five.
