Alano and Western Command Commander Lieutenant General Rustico O. Guerrero leading the awarding ceremonies to soldiers and stakeholders at the Naval Station Carlito Cunanan in Barangay Macarascas, this city.

Speaking in Filipino, Navforwest commander Commodore Joseph Rustom O. Peña in his message said that these notable personalities have contributed so much in the achievement of environmental protection and winning the peace in line with the Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) Bayanihan.

Selected soldiers, non-commissioned officers, enlisted personnel, civilian employees, and stakeholders were given military merit medals, distinguished honor badges, and plaques of recognition for their exemplary performance and invaluable support on the Fleet-Marine Team’s endeavors protecting the rich environment and natural resources of province of Palawan.

Navforwest plays a vital role in the protection of the East and West coasts of the province, including the Kalayaan Group of Islands. Its presence in strategic locations deters illegal logging, illegal fishing, poaching and smuggling of wildlife and endangered species. NFW also helps the conservation of marine resources.

Navforwest assists the smooth functioning of the Malampaya gas-to-power project and provides protection and required clearance to ships carrying supplies and manpower to the facility. It has also rendered assistance to divers at the UNESCO World Herigate Site, Tubbataha Marine National Park.
